FATHER JOHN CHRYSSAVGIS

Fr. John Chryssavgis, Archdeacon of the Ecumenical Throne, was born in Australia, completed theology in Athens, and pursued doctoral studies in Oxford. He serves as advisor to the Ecumenical Patriarch on environmental issues and theologian to the Ecumenical Department of the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese. He is the author of over forty books and numerous articles in several languages on the Church Fathers and Orthodox Spirituality. This is what Fr. John had to say when has was invited to lead our retreat: “I wouldn’t dare or presume to claim the experience and on-the-ground knowledge of the clergy that I respect and look up to. But perhaps I can try to offer some insights, looking in from the outside. As a deacon, I stand somewhere in between the presbyters and the laity; during Liturgy, I constantly move inside the altar space and outside the nave. I look forward to listening to and learning from my brothers as we reflect on and discuss how we can enhance and advance our ministry to all God’s people.”
